Good afternoon,

Weekend visits to their Delaware home by President Joe Biden and First Lady Jill Biden topped the list of most-read stories on the Delaware Business Now website.

It was reported last month that the president spent more weekends outside the White House than his recent predecessors.

Biden has been facing growing challenges to his presidency that include the possibility that his ambitious legislative agenda might fall victim to a split among moderates and progressives in the  Democratic party as well as unyielding GOP opposition.

The Delaware visits draw harsh criticism from Biden opponents and muted praise from supporters. In northern Delaware, the trips boost the economy as aides and security staff take hotel rooms and dine in the Wilmington area.

Biden was out of town over the weekend, attending a summit of European leaders in Italy. The visit included The President and First Lady meeting with Pope Francis. The visit drew criticism from conservative Catholics, who cite the president’s pro-choice actions.

Rounding out the top five was news of the death of luxury home builder Tim Dewson and an update on a slow decline in Covid-19 cases after a summer and early fall surge.

A late entry in the top 10 came over the weekend when a Chicago logistics center development company announced it had acquired 149 acres in the Glasgow area.

Plans, which were already in the works, from the former owner, call for distribution buildings at the site that was once owned by manufacturer W.L. Gore.
