A look back at Wilmington Trust collapse post most read March story

A look back at the “take under” of Wilmington Trust by M&T in the wake of Silicon Valley Bank’s failure was the most popular story in March by a wide margin, according to Google Analytics.

While the bank’s woes did not result in a takeover by federal regulators, what we saw was the regular process of state and federal regulators finding a bank willing to take over troubled assets. M&T, a super-regional bank, had the heft to perform that task. Silicon Valley is a different case, with the government taking control of troubled holdings for eventual sale and selling off good assets at a discount.

The analysis was contained in the “My Take” space in the newsletter and on the website.

Rounding off the list was a story of a woman who showed but did not point a gun while at a Dewey restaurant, a listing of Delaware’s growing list of celebrity chefs, and the decision by the State Fair not to hold Delaware Thunder hockey games at their smallish skating center.

The Thunder, despite the small venue, has a strong following, with fair officials acknowledging their loyalty but also pointing to the arena not being big enough to keep the team profitable.

The most unusual story came with the news that the massive Great Wolf Lodge in Perryville will open on July 29, in time for the Fourth of July waterpark rush.

The news is unusual given the supply chain woes that many construction projects have faced since the onset of the Covid-19 pandemic.
