The opening date for the Great Wolf Ledge in Perryville, MD is now set for the end of June,
The reservations site for the operator of expansive waterpark-hotels-conference center properties is now taking bookings beginning on June 29. An August opening had been announced earlier. but was later moved up to mid-July. The late June opening will allow the lodge to cash in on the July 4th holiday.
The Perryville lodge, with a quarter of a billion price tag, will be its largest property.
Great Wolf has reported strong reservations activity for the Perryville site off I-95 and near the Hollywood Casino.
In the meantime, Great Wolf, based in Madison, WI, is developing locations in Naples, FL., Webster, TX and Mashantucket, CT. The properties appeal to families squeezing in vacation time. Great Wolf has private equity backing from Blackstone, an initial investor in the Delaware City refinery east of Perryville.
The lodges feature meeting space that can combine family trips and conferences.
The lodge’s waterpark will also be open with day passes for locals or those who don’t want to book a room at the property.
Great Wolf got its start in the waterpark mecca of Wisconsin Dells. Smaller competitor Kalahari also opened its first hotel waterpark in the Dells, a longtime destination for Chicago area families.
Great Wolf formerly added locations in vacation destinations like the Poconos in Pennsylvania and Williamsburg, VA, but has since moved into sites near population centers. Such is the case with Perryville, which has a potential market of millions of families in the Mid-Atlantic.
The price per night starts at $330, a 30% discount from the normal rate. The lodge is also kicking in a $30 dining credit.
