Non-Prime energy-saving options

Good morning,

We did not know Amazon Prime Day was a “thing” until the last week or so.

It turns out that if you have a Prime account, a business or individual can get some deals from the online giant that is adding distribution centers near Newport, Delaware City, and Seaford.

But Amazon, Walmart, Target, Best Buy, etc., aren’t your only options.

Both Delmarva Power and the Delaware Sustainable Energy Utility (which operates under the Energize Delaware brand)  quietly opened online stores.

Both Delmarva and Energize have similar offerings that include smart thermostats, LED light bulbs, energy-saving power strips, and even water-saving attachments for showerheads and faucets.

Water devices can help cut water heater costs.  And every little bit helps if you happen to be in the service area of utilities like Tidewater and Artesian, both of which have hefty rates that make you think twice as you watch the lawn turn brown during a 90 degree day.

“Utility customers can now save energy, water, and time by shopping the Energize Delaware Online Marketplace,”  Tony DePrima, executive director for Energize Delaware, stated in a release back in March.  “They will get instant discounts on select products along with savings on bills long after products are delivered.”

Energize Delaware, a nonprofit, was formed as a way to promote and finance energy conservation efforts that can reduce power consumption.

Some of the deals can be eye-popping. Energize Delaware recently offered a basic Nest thermostat for $30, or about $100 off the list price. Both sites offer inexpensive LED bulbs that are a great deal if you have obsolete lighting at your business or home.

Both DSEU and Delmarva have “stayed in their lanes” with their online stores and have not ventured into energy-saving appliances, heating, air-conditioning systems, water heaters, faucets, etc.

Delaware sites currently don’t show any deals on electric vehicle charging systems.

Click here for the Delmarva store, and you can check out the Energize Delaware site here.

Enjoy your evening. This newsletter returns tomorrow. – Doug and Sharon Rainey.
