Cafe Riviera to remain open in Concord Mall

Cafe Riviera will remain open after all in Concord Mall.

The popular Brandywine Hundred family dining spot announced  via social media that it will stay open for the foreseeable future under an agreement with mall landlord Namdar Realty Group. The restaurant had been slated to close at the end of the month at the mall, which is dealing with a rising vacancy rate.

The owners of the 40-year-old restaurant praised their landlord and the outpouring of support from diners that accompanied the closing announcement.

Mauri Poke Bowl opening 2nd location in restaurant rich Governor’s Square

While travel to Hawaii has been restricted due to the virus, one of the specialties of the Aloha State is coming to a strip mall near you.

Mauri Poke Bowl, which has a location south of Newark in Ogletown, will open its second in a section of  Governor’s Square off Route 40  in Bear.

Barriers to entry are fewer for Poke spots  since the tuna and fixens’ dish does not require a fully equipped kitchen.

Maui has lots of company at Governor’s Square, a DelleDonne property.  Within in a short walk is burrito franchise Moe’s, hugely popular Chick ‘fil A, Two Claws, a Cajun crab spot, Five Guys, and Longhorn Steakhouse. On the other side of the sprawling center is Wings to Go, McDonald’s, Burger King, Bob Evans, Taco Bell, New Great Wall, and  Stewart’s Brewing Co.

Not  reopening for now at least is Teppanyaki Grill And Supreme Buffet. Self-serve buffets are still verboten under Covid-19 codes
La Casa Pasta offerings now at Newark-area Shoprites

Glasgow mainstay La Casa Pasta is a short walk to the Shoprite in the Four Seasons area south of Newark. It makes  sense that some of the restaurant’s offerings should make their way to the store during the pandemic.

According to a social media post, the restaurant’s homemade meatballs, pasta, cheese, crab and lobster ravioli are available, along with homemade tomato or marinara sauce. Coming in the winter is a Bolognese sauce.

The La Casa Pasta items will be available at the Glasgow, Newark and Bear stores.

The Kenny family Shoprites have long featured items from local food purveyors.

Vita Nova closes for the semester

The University of Delaware’s highly regarded Vita Nova student run restaurant is closed for the remainder of the semester. Cited was  an abundance of caution due to the Covid-19 pandemic

UD, like other universities is dealing with a rising number of positive cases of the virus.

Service at Vita Nova had been limited to takeout.

Rosenfeld’s opening Wilmington location on Monday

Rosenfelds’s Jewish Delicatessen will open its Wilmington location at 10:30 a.m. on Monday.

The deli will be the third for Rosenfeld’s, which got its start in Ocean City, MD and added a second location on Coastal Highway in the Rehoboth area. An outpost at the airport in Salisbury was closed as travel plunged.

Rosenfeld’s earlier annunced an agreement with Big Fish Restaurant group that will spur expansion. The Wilmington location, near ChristianaCare’s Wilmington Hospital, is part of a restaurant complex owned by Rehoboth-based Big Fish.

Five Guys opens

Following  Covid-19 delays, Five Guys opened in the food court at Christiana Mall. Five Guys replaces McDonald’s, which fled the mall a while back. Like its Christiana Mall  food court neighbor Chick ‘fil A, Five Guys has a location a short distance away in Governor’s Square, off Route 40 in Bear.

The fast food giant has been dealing with too many inside locations as well as the economics of cranking out a lower-priced menu while paying hefty mall rents. McDonald’s has also departed Walmart locations.

Curiously, the Golden Arches  did not come up with a free-standing location somewhere around the mall, given the high traffic counts.
