A record month for our site

Hello everyone,

Delaware Business Now had another record month as Delaware hunkered down in response to coronavirus.

Traffic in April exceeded our performance for the entire year of 2014. Sometime this month, our numbers will eclipse those for the entire year of 2019.

We would have been happy to maintain and modestly add to the  2019 numbers.

The good news is that we are seeing signs of the curve flattening, especially if you focus on the numbers in Kent and New Castle County.

Will a recovery come too late for some businesses? Yes.

Do we need more transparency on the part of the Carney Administration on outbreaks and locations?  Hell yes.

Is the state Labor Department the most troubled agency in state government? The evidence is beginning to pile up.

Do we need specific ideas from the critics of the Carney Administration rather than sweeping statements with no specifics, outdated stats, misleading comparisons to the flu, anti-vaccination rhetoric and conspiracy theories? Yes again.

At any rate, below are links to the most popular stories in April that show the path of this virus as it hit poor neighborhoods in Delaware and later hammered the poultry belt and pockets of poverty in Sussex County.

Along the way, we had Pennsylvania’s ill-advised decision to close its liquor stores, sending armies of shoppers to liquor stores near the border and a University of Washington report that indicates Delaware may be able to have limited openings on May 19. The date is now May 20

The top seven stories listed below

  1. Newark and New Castle-Bear areas have the largest concentration of coronavirus cases
  2. Federal CDC called in as Sussex County is declared a coronavirus hot spot
  3. State Police set up checkpoint after out of staters flock to Total Wine, Home Depot in Claymont
  4. Trending: U of Washington model says Delaware could begin to ease social distancing on May 19
  5. COVID map shows a cluster of cases along Delaware River
  6. Rehoboth Police report eight arrests related to beach, boardwalk ban
  7. Trending: Coronavirus cases make their way to every corner of Delaware

Here’s hoping we get a break today when it comes to the weather. A five-hour power outage yesterday afternoon was not helpful on our end. We also appreciate the work of Delmarva crews and the decision out of an abundance of caution to not go out in the middle  of the storm.  – Doug and Sharon Rainey.
