Trending: Lidl to open Dover store in February

Lidl announced it will open its first store in Dover on Wednesday, February 5.

The new food market, located at 150 N. DuPont Highway, will hold a ribbon cutting event beginning at 7:40 a.m., and will kick off a weekend of offers, giveaways, and prizes for shoppers.

The store will be open from 8 a.m. to 10 p.m. Monday-Sunday. This will be Lidl’s second store in Delaware. The other store is in Middletown. A third store is in the works in the Bear area.

“With incredible quality and low everyday prices, Lidl always means a good deal!” said Dover store Manager Ryan Garcia. “We look forward to expanding the Lidl brand in Delaware and giving the community an award-winning grocery store that will be an easy choice for shoppers in Dover!”

 Food & Wine magazine recently ranked Lidl a Top 3 U.S. Supermarket – ahead of retailers like Trader Joe’s and Whole Foods.  Lidl has also won more than 500 U.S. awards for its exclusive products.

While the bulk of food items come from the U.S., Lidl does offer a selection of European cheese, sauces and meats.

Lidl also offers food and  non-food specials brought in each Wednesday for a limited time.The rotating non-food selection will include fitness gear, small kitchen appliances, toys, outdoor furniture, and other items.

 Also offered is fresh produce, flowers and a fresh bakery.

Lidl offers wages and benefits for its team that are above the industry standard and recently announced it would expand healthcare coverage to all workers, including those working part-time, regardless of the number of hours worked. 

Lidl operates more than 11,000 stores and is active in 32 countries, employing around 287,000 employees globally.

Germany-based Liidl has more than 85 stores across nine east coast states. It operates a  distribution center in Perryville, MD.
