Updated: Snow ends as rain takes over

Portions of Delaware saw a short bout of heavy snowfall Wednesday that end up as mixed precipitation and ran. 

The DEOS system from the University of Delaware reported upwards of 3.5 inches of snow in Hockessin with lesser amounts to the south. 

A Winter Weather Advisory was lifted later on Wednesday.

The National Weather Service revised its forecast on Tuesday afternoon to include the possibility of  more ice.

Cancellations piled up as the day went on with northern Delaware school districts, the University of Delaware and  Delaware State University canceled classes in response to the forecast. The City of Wilmington closed its offices at noon.

On Tuesday, Delaware Department of Transportation crews were spreading brine on roads in anticipation of bad weather on Wednesday.

Snowfall totals had ranged from three to five inches in northern Delaware and two to four inches in other areas.
