Accident in construction area near Lewes  claims life

A man was killed at an accident in a construction area near Lewes.

The accident  occurred at  12:57 p.m. when a 2016 Freightliner concrete pumper truck was stopped on Hazlett Road within the Governors development which is currently under construction.

While the vehicle was stopped, workers with another company began working on a sewer through an open manhole cover

One worker climbed in, while the other was standing at the top as a spotter.

The truck driver failed to see the spotter near the open manhole cover and the spotter failed to see the truck backing up, with the right rear tires striking the worker.

The man, 29, from Georgetown, was pronounced dead at the scene.

The driver of the truck, a 43-year-old man from Lewes was not injured.

This accident remains under investigation by the Delaware State Police Collision Reconstruction Unit.
