Widener University names Coles  to engagement post

Widener University announced the appointment of Uva Coles as associate vice president for Civic and Global Engagement. [Not a valid template]

As associate vice president, Coles will lead the university’s efforts related to civic and global engagement, as well as services for international students. She will focus on the university’s plans to establish a center that integrates global engagement, the Office of Civic Engagement and International Student Services.

Coles began her position at Widener on Nov. 1, after serving as vice president for Advancement and Strategic Partnerships at Peirce College in Philadelphia. 

She currently serves on Philadelphia’s Global Identity Advisory Board and was previously appointed to Philadelphia’s Workforce Steering Committee, and to a mayor-appointed international delegation to Germany to study best practices in workforce development.

José-Luis Riera named vice president for student life at UD

José-Luis Riera has been named vice president for student life at the University of Delaware.  His appointment, which comes after a national search, was effective Nov. 15.

Riera will report directly to Assanis with responsibility for leadership and administrative oversight of the Division of Student Life, and he will work closely with other campus administrators to promote student learning, engagement and success. To support the personal growth of all students, he is charged with ensuring that the relationships between students’ academic and co-curricular lives are mutually reinforcing. The direct reporting line to the president is a new development in administrative structure, intended to elevate alignment and impact of student success as a leadership priority for the University.

Riera has had more than 15 years of professional experience in student affairs and higher education administration, encompassing a wide variety of experiences and responsibilities.

Riera has made numerous presentations on student life topics at national conferences and is a member of the Association for Student Conduct Administration, the ACPA: College Student Educators International and NASPA: Student Affairs Administrators in Higher Education. He is also the author or coauthor of several articles in professional journals and book chapters.

He earned a bachelor’s degree in music and biology from Muhlenberg College, a master of science degree in student affairs from Colorado State University and his doctorate in college student personnel administration from the University of Maryland. 

General manager named for Milford Wellness Village

Daphne Bumbrey has been hired as general manager of the Milford Wellness Village, the complex that next year will occupy the Clark Avenue property being vacated by Bayhealth Hospital, which is moving to a new site.

Bumbrey, who holds an MBA in organizational leadership, comes to her new role from Milford Senior Center where she has served as CEO and Executive Director since 2014.

Over the next several months, Bumbrey will be focused on leasing all of the spaces in the multi-use development with quality tenants that fit into the wellness village’s mission and best serve the community.  After that, she’ll work with contractors as they renovate the spaces where the new organizations will operate.

Arthur Hall Insurance welcomes account executive

Arthur Hall Insurance welcomed Nahder Zomorrodian as an Account Executive in the Commercial Lines division. Based in the West Chester, PA office. Nahder focuses on developing client relationships and the management of industry services. Nahder attended Penn State University.

The Bancorp small business lending team adds 3

The Bancorp, Inc. north Wilmington, announced that Ryan Beck, Alan (Skip) Canavan and Charles Meyers have joined its nationwide Small Business Lending Team in the role of Vice President, SBA Business Development Officer. They will support The Bancorp’s growth strategies as a provider of Small Business Administration (SBA) loans, offering guidance and service to clients throughout the loan process.

Beck will deliver financing solutions to small business owners in the Houston region and develop client and referral relationships throughout Texas. Prior to his role at The Bancorp, he was Assistant Vice President, SBA Lender at Icon Bank.

Canavan will be based in the Tampa, FL area, while Meyers will focus on business development in the Salt Lake City region. They each bring more than 30 years’ SBA lending experience to their new roles. They join The Bancorp from First Chatham Bank where they both served as Vice President, SBA Business Development Officer.
