The Delaware State Fire Marshal’s office investigated five incidents involving fireworks during July 4.
This July 4 was the first holiday with legal fireworks in Delaware. Listed incidents included ground displays that are legal in the state.
- Shannon Cove – Odessa: Ground fireworks discarded into a trash can outside.
- Fireworks ignited the trash and burned the vinyl siding off of the house.
- Newport: Fireworks discharged inside an occupied apartment building.
- Magnolia: Fountain fireworks ignited combustibles inside a trash dumpster.
- Harrington: Sparklers ignited combustibles inside an outside trash can.
- Camden: Sparklers ignited grass at the rear of the home.
All fireworks are now prohibited in the State of Delaware until the next 30 day sale period from December 1, 2018 – January 1, 2019.
Legal fireworks can only be fired off on December 31stand January 1st.
Firecrackers and aerial displays are illegal in Delaware. Pennsylvania legalized most fireworks last year in a bid to gain tax revenue.
While illegal fireworks were often set off in Delaware on July 4th and New Year’s this year was a noisier fare in many neighborhoods, thanks to ground displays and illegal items.
