Taste of Newark has announced its return.
The event features culinary offerings from dozens of Newark restaurants as well as tastings from vineyards and breweries.
Battles of the chefs and cooking demonstrations have also been part of previous events.
Tickets for Taste of Newark are $50 and can be purchased here.
Proceeds support the Downtown Newark Partnership, University of Delaware Department of Hospitality Business Management and the Newark Arts Alliance.
This year marks a change from the Hospitality Department being the sole beneficiary of the long-running event, which was founded by former Mayor Vance Funk.
Conflicting reports surfaced earlier this year on the future of the long-running event held at the University of Delaware.
It had been feared that a cancellation would cast a shadow on Newark ’s other special events following the 2018 cancellation of New Night. Better known as Newark Nite in there are no assurances that the event will return in 2019.
Other events including the spring Wine and Dine in April and the Food and Brew Festival slated for this month remain in place.
Road construction was cited as the reason for the decision to scrub the June event. Restaurants have also cited the impact of food vendors on Main Street in their lukewarm response to an event that once attracted thousands.
