President Joe Biden is scheduled to fly to California this weekend as his re-election campaign get underway..
On Friday, the President, First Lady, defense officials, and members of the state’s Congressional delegation gathered in Dover to witness the dignified transfer of military personnel who died in a drone attack at an outpost in Jordan. Dover is the site of a military mortuary. The Bidens also met with grieving families.
Preparations are underway for a military response to the attack.
Following the ceremony, the Bidens flew to the Air Guard base in New Castle Friday afternoon and will spend the evening at the home near Greenville before the president heads to the West Coast.
Flight restrictions are in place in northern Delaware and adjacent areas into Saturday.
Biden is expected to meet with Black entertainment leaders in Los Angeles during the weekend trip. Polls have indicated less enthusiasm for Biden within communities of color.
Biden visited Michigan this week, where he encountered opposition to his support for Israel within the state’s large Arab-American community. Michigan is one of the battleground states Biden will need if he is to serve a second term.
