Aguilar to head Delaware State Fair

The longtime No. 2 leader at the Delaware State Fair is taking the top post.

Danny Aguilar was named General Manager after serving as   Assistant General Manager and Marketing and Sponsorship Manager for more than 17 years. He will succeed William J. DiMondi who had been with the fair for 16 years. 

The 105th edition of The Delaware State Fair will be held from July 18 to July 27 in Harrington, Kent County

Whisman Giordano names directors

Whisman Giordano & Associates, LLC (WGA) announced the following: Edward Devenny, CPA, and Alex Lalani, CPA, have been elevated to the firm’s director position. Combined, they have four decades of experience.

Devenny has provided accounting, auditing, tax, and consulting services to businesses and individuals for two decades.

Lalani has been with Whisman Giordano for over a decade, delivering tax and consulting services to businesses and individuals. He has over 15 years of experience and specializes in closely-held businesses, construction, estates and trusts, high-wealth individuals, and real estate.

Carney to nominate new corrections chief

Gov.  John Carney announced plans to Terra Taylor as Commissioner of the Delaware Department of Correction (DOC), pending approval by the State Senate.

Taylor has worked as Acting Commissioner since Julyand was previously the Deputy Commissioner. As Deputy Commissioner, Taylor held the Department’s second-highest position with responsibilities for supervising the department’s four bureaus and setting direction through policy development, strategic planning, and decision-making.

Taylor, who initially joined DOC in 1997, previously served as Chief of Community Corrections

Disney veteran becomes public works director for Rehoboth Beach

Matiosz

Henry Matlosz was named the City of Rehoboth Beach’s public works director. He was a 23-year veteran of Disney

Following five years in the U.S. Navy and stints as a construction supervisor and vending company owner, Matlosz began his career with Disneyland in Anaheim, CA.  Most recently, as senior manager for attraction maintenance, he led a team of more than 150 employees.

As the city’s new public works director, Matlosz will lead the building and grounds, fleet services, streets, wastewater, and water departments and play a key role in managing many of the city’s capital and construction projects.

 Matlosz will take over the role from Kevin Williams, who was hired as the city’s first public works director in 2018. Williams, who is retiring, will remain on staff for a couple of months to help 

Matlosz graduated from the U.S. Naval Academy in 1984 with a bachelor’s in control systems engineering. He grew up in Canford, NJ.

State Chamber affiliate announces new board members

The Delaware State Chamber of Commerce  501(c)(3) workforce development affiliate — The Partnership, Inc. — approved eight new members to its Board of Directors. The Partnership fosters private sector involvement in workforce development, training, and education to ensure the First State has a sustainable talent pipeline through four flagship programs: Delaware Principal for a Day, Superstars in Education & Training, Intern Delaware, and the Delaware Young Professionals Network.

The board also saw a change in leadership with outgoing Rick Deadwyler of Corteva Agriscience passing the gavel to Dr. Lora A. Johnson of Delaware Technical Community College. Deadwyler served as the chair since January 2020.

The Pines names executive chef

The  Pines, an American bistro in Rehoboth Beach, Delaware, recently named Kyle Berman the restaurant’s executive chef, part of Second Block Hospitality Group.

Berman has a bachelor’s degree in business law and marketing from Temple University.

The chef has worked ijn Philadelphia Miami, London, Chicago, Louisiana, California and New York.

Berman was the executive chef of The Study Hotel near the University of Pennsylvania.

Arthur Hall Insurance announces promotion
Arthur Hall Insurance announced the promotion of Vicki Marshall to the position of Account Executive and Plan Administrator for the United Way of Delaware Insurance Program. 

Marshall

She is based in the agency’s Wilmington-area office.

Starting her insurance career in 2006 as an agency receptionist, she  took an interest in the customer service aspect of the business and moved up in the agency.

Hensley joins TidalHealth

Hensley

TidalHealth announced  Stuart Hensley joined TidalHealth Primary Care in Delmar, DE.

Hensley received his Bachelor of Science in Nursing from Wilmington University in New Castle, Del. He later earned his Master of Science in Nursing, as well as his Master of Science in Management from Wilmington University. Hensley is a certified family nurse practitioner.

As a former paramedic and emergency room nurse, Hensley has more than 25 years of experience in various patient care, leadership, and educator roles. 

Alfred new AARP president

Wendell Alfred of Lewes has been selected as the new state president of AARP Delaware, the state office’s top volunteer role. AARP has more than 189,000 members in the state.

Alfred began his involvement with AARP 20 years ago as an AARP Driver Safety volunteer. Today, he actively volunteers with AARP as an “AARP Fraud Fighter” to help Delawareans prevent fraud and scams.

He currently serves as President of the Beebe Hospital Auxiliary Board and has given 18 years and nearly 8,000 hours of volunteer service to Beebe over.
