CorriXR Therapeutics, Inc., a Delaware-based cancer-focused biotherapeutics company developing breakthrough technology that overcomes drug resistance in solid tumors, announced that Deborah Moorad, has been named the company’s new chief executive officer.

Moorad, who previously served as CEO of Nature Technology Corp., and is an Entrepreneur-in-Residence at Cortado Ventures, succeeds co-founder Eric B. Kmiec, Ph.D., who has been appointed chief scientific officer.

Moorad joins as CorriXR recently closed its seed funding round and will be launching its Series A financing round later this year.

Rejoining the health system in her new post (she served for seven years in accounting-related roles), Debbie Smith brings experience in community affairs and engagement and special training in DEI.

A North Carolina native, Smith made Delaware her home in Central Delaware years ago when her husband was in the military. After he retired from the US Air Force, they both remained in the first state with their family.

In addition to her work at Bayhealth, she volunteers extensively in the community.

With a BS in accounting from The University of Southern Mississippi and an MBA from Delaware State University, Smith received a diversity, equity, and inclusion certificate from Cornell University in 2020.

Best Egg names chief consumer lending officer
Best Egg, north Wilmington, announced the appointment of Charles Do as its Chief Consumer Lending Officer.

Do will oversee Best Egg’s consumer lending product suite, including secured and unsecured personal loans, vehicle equity loans, credit cards, and flexible rent solutions.

Do will report to Best Egg President Bobby Ritterbeck and serve on the company’s Executive Operating Committee.

Already making a significant impact at Best Egg, Do successfully introduced and launched the company’s Vehicle Equity Loan product earlier this year. Under his guidance, the new product already provides an alternative for consumers in the title lending market.

Do”s career spans diverse sectors, from consumer lending to defense contracting.

Before joining Best Egg, he worked at JPMorgan Chase, where he spearheaded initiatives in auto finance. Before JPMorgan Chase, he served in key positions at Ally Financial and started his career at General Electric.

Best Egg provides financial products for those working toward prime lending status.

He has successfully managed revolving billion-dollar real estate construction portfolios (consumer and construction loans), residential subdivision development in Pennsylvania, Delaware, and Maryland, and large-scale warehouse development and fit-out. Boston is a licensed Real Estate Salesperson in Delaware and a Certified General Appraiser.

Co-founder of The Bridge radio group retiring

Bill Sammons, Jr., president and general manager of The Bridge, a regional Christian radio group serving the mid-Atlantic, has announced his plans to retire from broadcasting and his full-time role with the stations effective January 1, 2024.

Sammons was part of the team that launched The Bridge, then solely on 88.7 FM in Harrington in 2010 as Delaware’s only full-power Christian-format radio station. Today the station has 5 FM signals, including full-power stations serving Delaware, Maryland, the Eastern Shore of Virginia, and South Jersey.


He built the state’s first Christian station in 1990. WXPZ-FM, known as The Light FM, was a commercial station that operated LambJam Christian music festivals in the 1990s and early 2000s.

Sammons will remain on the board of directors of The Bridge of Hope, Inc., licensee of The Bridge radio stations, and he plans to continue as a volunteer, a listener, and a donor to the non-profit ministry.

The Bridge of Hope board of directors has named Jeff Twilley as the new president and general manager effective January 1, 2024. Twilley has been VP of Operations and Technology since 2019 and was the original engineer who put The Bridge on the air in 2010. Before The Bridge, Twilley served in various capacities with Delmarva Broadcasting.

Radio veteran Chris Scotland has joined The Bridge as a co-host of The Morning Show with Bill and Denise and will be serving as full-time co-host with Denise Harper beginning in January.

Overton returns to head DSU Police

Delaware State University named James T. Overton to head the DSU Police Department for the second time, succeeding Chief Bobby Cummings, who retired at the end of May.

He began that first tenure with DSU as Deputy Chief of Police in 2000, and then served as the University’s Chief of Police from 2005 until 2011.

Overton left DSU in 2011 to become the Chief of Police for the University of Massachusetts Boston campus. After a year in that position, he was named UMass’ interim Vice Chancellor of Student Affairs, serving from 2012-2016. He was appointed Senior Associate Vice Chancellor of Student Affairs from 2016-2018. During his UMass tenure, he also served as an adjunct sociology instructor.

Over the last five years, Chief Overton worked in business development with the Security Division of Johnson Controls and then as a Senior Accounting Manager for Adventech, a systems integration company specializing in security solutions. He also served in the Delaware Air National Guard from 1990-2014.

WSFS names wealth manager SVP

WSFS Financial Corporation announced Jamie P. Hopkins has been named Senior Vice President and director of Private Wealth Management effective October 1. In his role, Hopkins will lead, enhance and grow Bryn Mawr Trust’s private wealth management business.

Hopkins is a graduate of Temple University School of Law, where he received his LL.M., and Villanova University School of Law, where he earned his juris doctorate. Hopkins earned a master’s degree in financial planning from The American College of Financial Services and a master’s degree in business administration from Villanova University. He founded FinServ Foundation, a nonprofit that offers coaching, internship and leadership programs to help the next generation of financial professionals.

Before joining Bryn Mawr Trust, Hopkins served as Managing Partner at Carson Group. 

Longwood names chief strategist

Longwood Gardens, Kennett Square announced the appointment of Matthew Earnest as Chief Strategy Officer. Earnest will help drive the implementation of Longwood’s 2030 Strategic Plan and the activation of other strategic business initiatives and will work to develop metrics to measure the impact of Longwood’s mission.

Earnest comes to Longwood after 13 years as the cofounder and Principal of Entertainment + Culture Advisors (ECA), a global consulting firm specializing in strategy and market analysis for large-scale cultural attractions. There, he advised clients, including Longwood.

Before his tenure at Entertainment + Culture Advisors, Earnest worked as the Principal and Regional Director of the Economics Practice for Economics Research Associates (ERA) / AECOM.

Earnest arrives as Longwood is in the midst of its most ambitious capital project in a century, Longwood Reimagined: A New Garden Experience and expansion of its mission to being a multi-site organization with the pending acquisition to conserve the 505-acre estate, Granogue, located in New Castle Count.

Longwood Reimagined is a $250 million project encompassing 17 acres and includes a 32,000 sq. ft. conservatory, a new administration building, and new dining and event spaces. The project is slated for completion in fall 2024.

Dr. Davis joins Nemours as EVP

Nemours Children’s Health announced the appointment of Matthew M. Davis, MD as Executive Vice-President, Enterprise Physician-in-Chief and Chief Scientific Officer.

Beginning on Nov. 1, Davis will oversee all clinical and research activities and growth across Nemours Children’s Health.

Davis currently serves as the Chair of the Department of Pediatrics and Executive Vice-President and Chief of Community Health Transformation at Ann & Robert H. Lurie Children’s Hospital of Chicago and Northwestern University Feinberg School of Medicine.

“I am honored to join Nemours Children’s Health as the new Physician-in-Chief and Chief Scientific Officer across the Delaware Valley, North Florida, and Central Florida regions,” said Davis. “I look forward to continuing my efforts to improve children’s health through a community-connected approach to patient care, research, education and advocacy.”

Wohlsen Construction promoted Carmel Anerino, from Senior Project Manager to Project Executive. In her new role, Carmel will lead and mentor project teams and foster client retention.

Carmel is a graduate of George Washington University with a Bachelor of Science degree. Her 24 years of construction industry experience have included roles as a preconstruction manager, project manager, senior project manager, and business development manager.

Carmel is currently performing on the University of Maryland Medical System Bed Tower Expansion at their Upper Chesapeake Health Center campus. Her previous experience includes numerous projects for Alfred I. duPont Hospital for Children.

Chapdelaine named data/operations officer

The Delaware Community Foundation (DCF) announced that Chris Chapdelaine has been promoted to data and operations officer. Chapdelaine joined the DCF philanthropic services team in 2020, providing frontline service to donors. His new role will focus on organizational technology systems, data, and DCF’s operations.

Shearman is a Wilmington University graduate, earning a Master of Science in Nursing and a Bachelor of Science in Nursing.

Before joining Beebe Healthcare, Shearman worked at Fresenius Medical Care, serving patients in an outpatient hemodialysis clinic.
