Aircraft company purchases former Sikorsky helicopter plant in Coatesville

The Philadelphia Business Journal (subscription) reported that Piasecki Aircraft Corp. has purchased the former Sikorsky helicopter plant in Coatesville, PA. about 28 miles north of Newark.

The family-held company was founded by  Frank Nicholas Piasecki, one of the original developers of helicopters. He helped make the Delaware Valley a center for the helicopter industry and headed a company that Boeing later acquired. Boeing still operates a helicopter plant near the Philadelphia International Airport.

Felix duPont was an investor in the original Piasecki Helicopter operation.

Piasecki Aircraft works on cutting-edge technology that includes unmanned drones and battery-electric and hydrogen-fueled aircraft.

Piasecki is based near the Philadelphia International Airport and the Boeing helicopter plant in Essington, PA. Employment is listed at 57.
