The Philadelphia Business Journal (subscription) reported that Piasecki Aircraft Corp. has purchased the former Sikorsky helicopter plant in Coatesville, PA. about 28 miles north of Newark.
The family-held company was founded by Frank Nicholas Piasecki, one of the original developers of helicopters. He helped make the Delaware Valley a center for the helicopter industry and headed a company that Boeing later acquired. Boeing still operates a helicopter plant near the Philadelphia International Airport.
Felix duPont was an investor in the original Piasecki Helicopter operation.
Piasecki Aircraft works on cutting-edge technology that includes unmanned drones and battery-electric and hydrogen-fueled aircraft.
Piasecki is based near the Philadelphia International Airport and the Boeing helicopter plant in Essington, PA. Employment is listed at 57.
