Aldi will open a store in Millsboro at 9 a.m. on Feb. 23.

It’s part of an expansion of 1,000 stores in the past decade. The German retailer has its U.S. headquarters in Illinois. Aldi has stores in all three of Delaware’s counties.

Aldi operates smaller format stores that feature its house brands and discount pricing.

“Our stores are designed to make grocery shopping smarter, faster and easier, and we’ve been voted the price leader for six years running,” said Jeff Baehr, Frederick regional vice president for Aldi. “We’re excited to open our first Aldi store in Millsboro and introduce local customers to a new, more affordable way of shopping.”

Many Aldi stores offer store delivery and curbside pickup.

The store has retained the feature of customers using a quarter to unlock a shopping cart and getting the coin back when the cart is returned. Its low-price business model has never offered single-use plastic bags that are now banned in Delaware grocery stores.

Aldi opened a store. in Milford earlier this month a part of its regional expansion.
