President Joe Biden and First Lady Jill Biden paid a brief visit to Delaware to vote in the state’s primary election.

The Bidens spent about an hour in the state before their scheduled departure from New Castle Airport shortly before 8 p.m.

They flew in on Air Force One with their arrival featuring media photographs. The First Couple often fly into the state on the Marine One helicopter with minimal or no coverage. The President has been stepping up his travel schedule with the approach of mid-term elections for control of the House and Senate.

The Bidens would have been able to vote absentee or by mail under a state law that is now being challenged by Republicans in Chancery Court.

Republican legislators earlier voted to block an amendment to the state Constitution on mail-in voting.

The stance was believed to be linked to claims that mail-in voting could be rigged, one argument in former President Trump’s claim that the 2020 Presidential election was stolen.

Earlier in the day, Biden hosted an event celebrating the passage of the Inflation Reduction Act of 2022.

The President and Vice President Kamala Harris delivered remarks.

Despite its name, the wide ranging bill contains funding that ranged from incentives for electric vehicles to the government being able to negotiate drug prices for Medicare recipients.

The bill comes with a minimum tax on companies with $1 billion in profits.
