The 37-year-old executive at WSFS Bank has died from a gunshot wound, Wilmington Police reported.

The incident occurred on Aug. 16 when police found the woman and a male adult on the 700 block of North Washington Street, near WSFS’s headquarters. Both were hospitalized in critical condition, with Mondell later succumbing to her injuries.

“We are devastated by the passing of Carrie Mondell, Senior Vice President and Director of Operational Risk Management at WSFS.  It’s impossible to put into words the grief and shock we all feel. She was a caring and passionate person who served WSFS for more than 14 years. Carrie loved and supported her family and many friends. At this time, we ask to respect the family and our Associate’s privacy to grieve this tragic loss,” said Rodger Levenson, WSFS CEO..

The company’s headquarters is near the scene of the shootings, with indications that she was struck by a stray bullet.

The death comes after a fairly quiet period in a city that has struggled with the issue of gun violence. The rate of homicides has declined during the past six years.
