County taxpayers  paying their bills with a credit card will not see an added fee on many sewer payments and will get a slightly lower 2.35% added  on property tax payments.

Tax, sewer, and other payments can now be made through an online portal on New Castle County’s website. Previously those using a credit card had to pay a processing fee of 2.5% of the total transaction for tax payments and $5.25 for sewer payments.

Starting on  February 1,  tax fees were lowered to 2.35%, and sewer fees were reduced to $4.50.

New Castle County is now waiving credit card fees for sewer payments up to $650, while tax payment credit card fees will remain at 2.35% of the total transaction. No extra fees will be charged for any e-checks or ACH payments.

Property tax payments come due in late summer, while sewer fees are collected early in the year. A large portion of property tax payments are made through mortgage escrow accounts.
