Motorists in border areas also saw the impact of price competition in Maryland, with Elkton and Salisbury gas station convenience stores posting gas prices below the Delaware average. this comes despite Maryland’s higher gas tax.

Both Maryland cities have a larger number of independent stations that use lower gas prices to attract customers who might otherwise go to price leaders like Wawa, Royal Farms, and name gas brand franchises from Shell, ExxonMobil, etc.

Analysts and the oil industry say the price relief might be short-lived since supplies remain tight.
