President Joe Biden flew out of Rehoboth Beach late Monday morning after a visit with no public sightings.

Details of the outbound flight were not immediately disclosed.

On Friday, Biden flew out of Joint Base Andrews to Dover Air Force Base before traveling to his home. He is scheduled to leave Rehoboth at 11 a.m. Monday. He earlier received the daily briefing.

The Federal Aviation Administration issued temporary flight restrictions for the Rehoboth area from Friday through  Monday Monday.  It would be the first-weekend visit by Biden since his inauguration.

No public or private events were on the White House calendar for the weekend. However, private visits are often listed when the president is at his Greenville area home.

There have been questions and speculation about suffering from a persistent cough. The White House denied it is an issue but hinted at a slight cold, adding that the president always travels with a  physician.

If the president is a little under the weather, it is not affecting his travel schedule. (See below).

Biden does have a small group of staffers and Secret Service people who accompany him on weekend visits. It provides a modest economic boost in terms of dining and hotel stays.

In August, it appeared that Biden and First Lady Dr.  Jill Biden would spend at least part of the traditional presidential vacation at the North Shores home. However, Senate consideration of the infrastructure bill and the fall of Afghanistan apparently led to the Bidens spending time at Camp David and their home near Greenville.

The First Lady’s name was not mentioned in the presidential schedule. A travel schedule for Jill Biden is not published unless it involves a trip tied to the administration’s initiatives.

The Bidens are also believed to be sensitive to disruptions that would have come during the height of the tourist season.

Although Rehoboth Beach is more of a year-round community than in the past, the area sees fewer visitors after Labor Day.

Biden finished up a busy week with a West Coast trip that included stops in Idaho and Colorado.

He arrived in a Sussex County that is seeing a surge in Delta variant Covid-19 cases that, along with the fall of Afghanistan, have led to a decline in Biden’s approval rating.

Both county hospitals have postponed elective surgeries requiring an overnight stay due to the number of Covid-related cases, mainly among the unvaccinated.

On Monday afternoon, the President will fly to New York City where he will travel to a session of the United Nations.

He is expected to get questions on the U.S. commitment to the international body, after the go-it-alone policies of his predecessor, Donald Trump.

Some policies of the previous administration have remained in place.
