Hello everyone,

The surge in Covid 19 stories and the president’s shortened vacation topped the list of most-read August stories on the Delaware Business Now website.

The top story came with  Delaware moving into the “very high risk” category by Covid ActNow after cases and hospitalizations continued to climb in August, thanks in large part to the faster-spreading Delta variant and a slowdown in vaccinations.

Preparations were underway for a Rehoboth Beach area vacation for  President and First Lady Dr. Jill Biden beginning in August.

However, the fall of the Afghan government and delays in passing the infrastructure bill in the Senate led to one long weekend at the Greenville-area home and short stays at the presidential retreat at Camp David in the Maryland mountains.

Other top stories included a Harrington woman pleading guilty to pocketing withheld employment taxes at a family-owned business and Friends Schools, being unfriendly, and suing its neighbors over their failure to approve putting two schools on one site in the quiet Alapocas neighborhood near Wilmington.

The suit was triggered by the school agreeing to sell a tract for $50 million that now houses one school to fast-growing pharma company Incyte. Friends would then build a new school on the same site as the school for the upper grades.

The sale hinges on Friends getting an OK to build the new school and zoning for the Incyte expansion.
