The Cape Gazette reported that soffit fell from the Henlopen Hotel on the Rehoboth Beach boardwalk on July 4th.
No injuries were reported from the material coming from an overhanging area.
The boardwalk entrance to the hotel, the area where the chunk fell, has been closed until further notice.
A hotel official said the incident does not reflect structural problems at the hotel, the Cape Gazette noted.
The hotel is the second at the boardwalk site to carry the Henlopen Hotel name. The original hotel built in 1879 was replaced by the current structure. The hotel has condominiums.
To the south, Town of Ocean City canceled its Fourth of July display when fireworks went off prematurely on Sunday.
The mishap in Rehoboth comes after the partial collapse of a condominium tower near Miami that led to two dozen deaths and more than 100 being listed as missing.
The remainder of the tower will undergo demolition to ensure the safety of rescue teams.
