More than 55% of Delawareans have received at least one dose of Covid-19 vaccine, according to figures from Covid Act Now. (See interactive map below)

As of Sunday, June 6, 67.4 percent of Delaware adults had received at least one shot, according to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC). Delaware is aiming to meet President Biden’s goal of vaccinating 70 percent of adults with at least one shot by July 4.

Delaware has been averaging about 3,000 vaccinations a day, a reflection of a national trend that has led the state to not order additional doses.

The 3,000  would roughly translate into 1,500  first vaccine doses daily since the state also gives second vaccinations of Pfizer/BioNTech and Moderna vaccines. In addition, a small percentage of shots are single-dose Johnson & Johnson/Janssen vaccines.

According to a  New York Times analysis last weekDelaware had been  two weeks away from meeting the 70% goal.

Delaware is behind its neighboring states in the rate of vaccinations, with New Jersey, Pennsylvania, and Maryland all reaching the 70 percent goal.

On the other end of the spectrum, Alabama and Mississippi will take a year to vaccinate 70 percent of the adult population at the current rate.

One reason for the state not yet reaching the 70% mark is the lagging performance in Kent County. While Kent is the least populated of the state’s three counties,  its 42 percent rate of people with at least one dose stands in stark contrast to figures for Sussex and New Castle counties.

Kent does have the lowest rate of new Covid cases among the three counties, a  possible factor in the reluctance to get vaccines.

State officials have remained low key in comments  about the vaccination gap and last  week praised community outreach efforts in Kent that aim to get more shots into arms.

As of June 4, a total of 927,661 administered doses of the  Covid-19 vaccine have been reported to Delaware’s immunization information system, DelVAX.

A total of 827,280 doses have been delivered to the state, and 364,575 doses have been delivered as part of the federal provider programs.
