The price at the pump dropped a penny in Delaware over the past week, according to Wilmington-based AAA Mid-Atlantic.

The stability that left gas at about $3 a gallon in many locations comes after a ransomware attack on the Colonial Pipeline that halted operations and severely limited gasoline deliveries along the East Coast and Southeast.

Delaware did not see the issues experienced elsewhere that included long lines at stations that exhausted supplies.

Membership clubs continued to offer the best deals for gas in Delaware, with the Costco in the Christiana Mall area offering gas at $2.80 a gallon, followed by BJ’s.

According to new data from the Energy Information Administration, total domestic refinery utilization increased slightly last week.

As operations get back to normal, supply is being affected by a shortage of gasoline tanker drivers.

Crude prices had decreased last  week as the market remains concerned that increasing coronavirus infections worldwide could reduce crude consumption this year.

Additionally, new market concerns about inflation and EIA’s weekly report showing that total domestic crude inventories increased also helped to reduce crude prices.

“As demand and supply move in sync, local and national averages are expected to continue stabilizing through the weekend,” said Jana L. Tidwell, manager of Public and Government Affairs for AAA Mid-Atlantic.  “However, we could see some fluctuation next week with the lead up to Memorial Day weekend, during which AAA forecasts 34 million Americans to take road trips, a 52% increase over 2020.”
