In Delaware, the price of regular gas rose by three  a gallon during the past week, Wilmington-based AAA Mid-Atlantic reported.

This came after some stations and convenience stores raised their prices by as much as a dime a gallon.

According to new data from the Energy Information Administration, total domestic gas stocks decreased as demand increased last week.

Monday figures

  • Pennsylvania’s gas average is $3.02 today, unchanged overnight and up 2 cents in the last week.
  • The Philadelphia (5-county) area gas average is $3.00 today, unchanged overnight and up 4 cents in the last week.
  • New Jersey’s gas average is $2.93 today, up a penny overnight and up 4 cents in the last week.

Market leaders Wawa and Royal Farms had a widely posed price for regular of $4.74.

Warehouse clubs continued to offer the lowest prices, with Costco near Christiana Mall and BJ’s in New Castle offering a $2.50 a gallon price.

At the close of NYMEX trading Friday, West Texas Intermediate (WTI) crude oil settled at 64.45 per barrel, down nearly $1 a barrel from Friday’s figure.

Market optimism about crude demand recovery continues to push crude prices higher. As vaccines continue to roll out and optimism grows, the market is likely to continue seeing higher crude prices.

“Rising crude prices, tightening gas supplies, and increased gas demand continue to drive pump prices to higher ground,” said Jana L. Tidwell, manager of Public and Government Affairs for AAA Mid-Atlantic. “Pennsylvania has already crossed the $3 threshold as New Jersey and Delaware continue to creep toward it.”
