Gunther

Trellist names CEO

Trellist Marketing and Technology, Wilmington, named Maria Gunther as CEO. As part of this transition, Trellist founding partner and longtime CEO David Atadan will become Chief Ventures Officer, while continuing to hold the role of Chief Operations Officer, and serve on the firm’s Board.

Gunther joined Trellist in 2005 as a design contractor and soon moved into project management, building strategic relationships throughout the years and across industries.

She was promoted to an Account Services Lead in 2010, a role that gave her an enhanced view of customer challenges and how Trellist’s unique portfolio of services can help meet them. In 2016, Gunther was unanimously elected as a partner in the organization thanks to her extraordinary efforts in building the business.

Lynch approved as professional engineer

Landmark Science & Engineering announced that Craig M. Lynch, a civil engineer at the civil/site engineering and environmental sciences consulting firm, has been approved by DAPE as a Professional Engineer in Delaware.

Lynch earned a Bachelor of Civil Engineering with a concentration in Environmental Engineering at Michigan State University in 2010. Prior to joining Landmark last March, he worked as a plan reviewer for New Castle County Department of Land Use. During his five years with the County, he was assigned to review 231 Land Development Applications involving many notable projects, including Landmark’s Avenue North mixed-use redevelopment project.

Belfint, Lyons & Shuman, P.A. (BLS), a certified public accounting and consulting firm with offices in Delaware and Pennsylvania, announced the following promotions, certification achievement, and new hire announcement.

Saaib T. Uppal, CPA, QKA has been promoted to Manager in the firm’s Accounting & Auditing Department. In addition to his CPA license, he has earned the QKA and AICPA DC credentials. He earned a Bachelor of Science and a Master’s degree in Accounting from the University of Delaware.

Emily V. Schmidt, CPA, CFE has been promoted to Supervisor in the firm’s Accounting & Auditing Department. She has earned the Certified Forensic Examiner (CFE) certification in addition to her CPA license. She has a Bachelor of Science degree in Accounting from the University of Delaware.

Amy L. Gordon, CPA rejoined the firm as a Supervisor in the firm’s Tax & Small Business Department. She earned her Bachelor of Science degree in Accounting from University of Delaware and a Master’s degree in Taxation from the Villanova School of Business.

Tyler J. Starr, CPA, QKA earned his QKA (Qualified 401(k) Administrator) credential, which is given by the American Society of Pension Professionals & Actuaries (ASPPA). He earned his Bachelor of Science degrees in Accounting and Finance from West Chester University.

New Castle County names economic development director

New Castle County Executive Matt Meyer named Charuni Patibanda to the position of New Castle County Economic Development Director. She replaces Tamarra Morris Foulkes who retired in the fall. Patibanda begins on February 2nd

  Patibanda most recently co-founded, and served as president of The McOsker Group, a consulting firm which develops political strategies for a variety of hospitality, media, outdoor advertising, healthcare, and development clients.

She also served in associate attorney roles with Sheppard Mullin and Glaser Weil, both in Los Angeles, where she focused on land use, government contracts, and regulatory matters in the region.

Patibanda advocated on a broad range of economic development projects for her clients and worked closely with local elected officials and staff to shape municipal ordinances and public policy issues, including home-sharing, police reform, and other measures affecting the business and workforce environments.

  Patibanda received her law degree from Emory University and her combined master’s and bachelor’s degree from the University of Southern California.

Kelly retires after long career in public sector

Wilmington Mayor Mike Purzycki announced the retirement from public service of his one-time rival and long-time friend Kevin F. Kelley, Sr.,  who has decided to end a 40-year government career on February 5.

Kelley most recently served as was Parks and Recreation Director. Purzycki said Deputy Parks and Recreation Director Wayne Jefferson will manage the department until a decision is made on the Director’s position. 

State Chamber of Commerce welcomes new board members

The Delaware State Chamber of Commerce welcomed new members of its Board of Directors and Board of Governors.

Restaurant Association inducts new board members

The Delaware Restaurant Association (DRA) and Delaware Restaurant Association Educational Foundation (DRAEF) have inducted new board members to their respective Board of Directors. Inductees were chosen during a selection process and sworn in during a first quarter meeting.

REACH Riverside announces new board member

REACH Riverside (REACH), a member of the WRK Group (The Warehouse, REACH, and the Kingswood Community Center) announced the appointment of a new member to its Board of Directors following an election during the organization’s January board meeting.

Joining the REACH board is Daniel Shoy, Jr.,  CEO of the East Lake Foundation (The Foundation). Shoy has 26 years of experience in the nonprofit sector with organizations focused on youth and community development.

In his current role, Shoy is responsible for strategic planning and goal setting that drive’s The Foundation’s mission of providing tools for families in The Villages of East Lake and students in the Charles R. Drew Charter School pipeline to build better lives for themselves and future generations.

Both REACH and the foundation are affiliates of Purpose Built Communities, a national model that helps local leaders create greater racial equity, economic mobility, and improved health outcomes for families and children.

UD alumni elected to engineering academy

Two University of Delaware alumni and current leaders — Terri L. Kelly, vice chair of the UD Board of Trustees, and Levi T. Thompson, dean of the College of Engineering — have been elected to the National Academy of Engineering. .

Thompson, who is also the Elizabeth Inez Kelley Professor of Chemical Engineering, was selected “for advances in catalysis and energy storage, entrepreneurship and academic leadership.”

Thompson rejoined UD as the dean of the College of Engineering in 2018. He was previously the Richard E. Balzhiser Collegiate Professor of Chemical Engineering at the University of Michigan, 

Kelly, the retired president and CEO of W.L. Gore & Associates, was selected “for leadership in product development and commercialization by advancing management practices that foster innovation.”

Kelly is the retired president and CEO of W.L. Gore & Associates, Newark.

She serves as vice chair of UD’s Board of Trustees.

Beebe Healthcare welcomes physician

Beebe Healthcare and Beebe Medical Group welcomed Anubhav Kanwar, MD, an infectious disease physician.

Kanwar is board certified in internal medicine and infectious diseases. He received his medical degree (MBBS) from Indira Gandhi Medical College in India. He completed his internal medicine residency at Oklahoma University Health Sciences Center and completed his fellowship in infectious diseases and HIV Medicine at Case Western Reserve University in Cleveland.

  He also earned a certificate in geographic information systems in public health and a certificate of knowledge in clinical tropical medicine and traveler’s health from the American Society for Tropical Medicine and Hygiene.
