Delaware shattered records for positive tests for Covid-19, according to information from the Delaware Division of Public Health.

A total of 916 people tested positive for the virus as of Wednesday, up from 782 a day earlier.  The higher rate may be influenced by varying times for lab processing that can bring in uneven  batches of cases.  Still, the totals are nine times the figure reported   in the summer.

Hospitalizations rose to 288 on Wednesday night, up from 277 a day earlier. The daily record for hospitalizations was 337 in the spring. Thirty-seven are in critical condition.

The high number of new cases led to 20.7 percent of people testing positive, up from 19.3 percent a day earlier.

The percentage of positive tests to total tests rose to 8.2 percent from 7.9 percent a day earlier.
