The Fresh Grocer in the Adams Four Shopping Center west of downtown Wilmington has filed a  WARN notice  with the Delaware Department of Labor.

According to the notice, the store will lay off 80 employees. The  News Journal  could not get confirmation on the status of the store that has operated for decades at the site.

WARN notices are required when a company plans to lay off more than 50 employees. The only other large WARN layoff this year came with Barclays eliminating hundreds of jobs at its operations in northern Delaware.

The market is served by the Wakefern Foods cooperative. The iocal Shoprite stores are also members of the cooperative.

Wilmington has a Shoprite on the Riverfront and an Acme in the  Trolley Square neighborhood. The Adams Four center is located in an area with a large percentage of lower-income residents.

Also in the works is a Wegmans supermarket west of the city limits at the former  DuPont Brandywine site.

(Editor’s note: A previous version incorrectly identified the business as Fresh Market)
