Beginning in 2019, the  DuPont Country Club  will host  American Junior Golf Association .tournaments.

DuPont Country Club offers three golf courses, including the recently renovated DuPont Course, which will host the AJGA.

The club’s signature course was built in 1949 by Alfred Tull and was the past home to the McDonald’s LPGA Championship for 18 years.

Since reopening in 2005, the DuPont Course has hosted the Delaware State Championship along with U.S. Open and U.S. Amateur qualifying.

“The DuPont Country Club is honored to be selected to host the AJGA at our championship course for each of the next three years,” said Rob Wirth, DuPont Country Club CEO.  “This is a partnership that will be of tremendous benefit to AJGA, our Club and to the Greater Wilmington community.  The Club’s new state-of-the-art practice facility will be ready in time for the first event in 2019, and we are confident this partnership will mark the beginning of a new era of championship golf at DuPont.”

As part of the partnership, DuPont Country Club will host a yearly AJGA Open event beginning in 2019 and continuing through 2021.

DuPont Country Club last hosted an AJGA event in 2003. Next year’s event, the Imperial Headwear Junior Championship, will take place Aug. 5 – 8, 2019. The Imperial Headwear Junior Championship is the first AJGA event to take place in the state of Delaware since 2014.

The Greater Wilmington Convention and Visitors Bureau will be a tournament partner of the event. It is New Castle County’s destination marketing organization and seeks to share the rich history of the Wilmington and Brandywine Valley area, all the while providing resources to enjoy all the amenities the area has to offer.

Wirth and Ben duPont purchased the county club near Wilmington  earlier this year from DuPont Co. and have announced major upgrades.
