The Buccini/Pollin Group will break ground on Tuesday for a new Homewood Suites hotel on the Wilmington Riverfront. Homewood is a Hilton brand.

The Philadelphia Business Journal  (paywall) reported the $30 million project will generate 200 jobs during construction and 40 when it opens.

BPG has reported its first hotel on the riverfront,  a Westin, has been posting a strong performance. The hotel is attached to the Chase Center on the Riverfront.

The Westin was the first hotel built in Wilmington in nearly two weekends. A Residence Inn by Marriott hotel opened earlier this year in downtown Wilmington.

Also under construction is a new riverfront hotel  developed by the Big Fish Restaurant Group and the Onix Group, a commercial real estate developer with hotel interests. Onix is  based in Kennett Square, PA.

Riverfront Development Corp. Executive Director Megan McGlinchey reported at a Bisnow development update earlier in May that the center has been limited in attracting conferences, due to the lack of nearby hotel rooms.

BPG had first announced plans for two additional hotels on the riverfront in 2016, Delaware Online reported.

BPG has been the top developer on the Riverfront and downtown Wilmington. The company has a sizable stable of hotel investments as well as a hotel management company.
