Police say texting driver caused heavy damage to home

image010New Castle Police reported that a 23-year-old man drove into a house in the  Bear-Christiana area  while allegedly testing.

At around  3:20 pm, Tuesday,  a caller  reported at a silver Pontiac Bonneville had run into a residence on that block. No one was in the home at the time.

The driver, who was not  identified, was uninjured.

An investigation indicated the driver  was traveling on Opus Drive driving towards Taylor Drive off Route 7 and north of Route 40.. The driver missed the turn onto Taylor drive and  drove onto a grassy yard area, over a short chain link fence, and into the rear of the residence on the unit block of Archer Circle.

The New Castle County inspector  determined that the  residence was  uninhabitable.

. The  driver was  issued citations for using an electronic communication device  while operating a motor vehicle and inattentive driving.  He was released at  the scene.
