The   nasty mix of snow, sleet and freezing rain, with ice accumulations of one quarter to one-third of an inch in northern Delaware.

A DelDOT snow plow caused a shutdown of Route 141 Sunday after it snagged some low-hanging overhead electrical wires with its raised bed while traveling south on Route 100 at 3:30 p.m. Sunday.

The incident caused the wires to contact the traffic signal at Route 100 and Route 141, knocking the traffic signal off line and cutting power to approximately 40 nearby customers of Delaware Power  Power is expected to be restored to these customers Sunday night.

The  DelDOT plow operator of several years was uninjured. The contact with the wires brought several poles on either side of Route 100 down. Work to restore the damaged electrical equipment is expected to be completed sometime tomorrow morning, meaning Route 141 is likely to remain closed during Monday morning’s rush hour.

A detour around the area has been established and mobile message boards are in place to direct traffic.

The ice build-up is expected to not melt until later on Monday. Schools have already announced their schedules will be delayed by two hours.
