$25,600 awarded for STEM programs

Community FoundationThe Next Generation North (Next Gen North) of the Delaware Community Foundation awarded $25,600 in grants to help fund science, technology, engineering and mathematics (STEM) educational programs at four Delaware nonprofit organizations.

The mission of Next Gen North is to develop young professionals into effective nonprofit board leaders. Through its fund raising activities, Next Gen North has awarded more than $300,000 to support organizations addressing community needs.

The 2015 grant recipients are as follows:

–  Latin American Community Center (LACC): $10,000 for the Youth STEM Program (or 125 youth, and technology and filmmaking materials.

– First State Robotics, Inc.: $6,600 for STEM outreach materials First State Robotics is an umbrella organization established to facilitate and support the work of four programs targeting children in grades K-12.

– St. Michael’s School and Nursery: $5,000 for STEM materials  Funding from The Next Generation North will allow St. Michael’s to expand its STEM lab for preschool to 2nd grade and purchase core knowledge kits for engineering, math, and science.

 

– Kalmar Nyckel Foundation: $4,000 for its new STEM to Stern program to be taught in its new center as well as onboard the ship.
