[Not a valid template]The Delaware Bioscience Association reported more than 300 people participated in the Delaware Bio Life Science Career Fair last week in Newark.
Alok Patel, operations director for the group, said companies were looking for candidates ranging from undergraduates to experienced PhDs.
“There was a good balance of candidates as we had a number of students seeking internships and seasoned professionals looking for higher level positions. The students came from colleges and universities throughout the surrounding region and as far away as Utah,” Patel said.
Bob Dayton, president of the association said company recruiters were impressed with the job seekers.
VWR, a sponsor and participant in the event for the last six years, employs over 8,000 people around the world distributing laboratory products and services. Dayton said the company remains pleased with the job fair, Dayton said.
Among the other companies participating were QPS, ANP and Wilmington PharmaTech. Johnson & Johnson’s Noramco unit in Wilmington was in attendance as well as Incyte, Inc., Wilmington, a company with a successful new drug.
QPS now has 1,200 people around the world and CD Diagnostics is a young company that recently moved to north Wilmington. It is headed by former Newark-based SDIX founder Rick Birkmeyer. Registration for the event was extended and coincidentally came as AstraZeneca announced plans to cut 1,200 positions from its north Wilmington site. The job fair did see some AstraZeneca staff in attendance.
