Woman killed when struck by forklift

Delaware State Police are investigating the death of a Wilmington woman who was struck by a forklift.

An employee of Eastern Metal Recycling was using a Toyota gas-powered forklift inside of the business. The employee used the forklift to place a large metal container on the ground, and exited the forklift. The forklift then began to roll backwards. The employee jumped on the forklift  in an attempt to regain control, but was unsuccessful.

The forklift struck customer Robin Godfrey, 53, of Wilmington, pinning her against the building’s wall. She was pronounced dead at the scene.

The Delaware State Police Crash Reconstruction Unit continues to investigate.
