North Wilmington, Del.  business owner Jeff Cragg officially filed his candidacy for governor at the Commissioner for Elections  Office in Dover.

He earlier  won the endorsement of the Republican Party of Delaware. Cragg told supporters his message  will center on job creation and economic development.

“Delawareans continue to feel the burden of increased taxes and government spending while seeing little growth in the private sector where jobs are created. While families and individuals are cutting back, working longer hours, and making hard sacrifices, our government continues to grow and expand at the expense of the private sector. The time has come to reign in this reckless spending and put more money back into your pockets,” he said. “This is why I’m running for governor and with your help I will go to Dover and create an environment where business can grow and restore our economic prosperity.”

He  faces an uphill battle in an increasingly “blue” state. His opponent, Democrat Jack Markell, has, by some accounts, governed from the center and gained bi-partisan support for a number of his proposals. He is moving into the post of chair of the National Governors Association.
