A new clinical study of stroke patients shows promising improvements in recovery through the 9zest Stroke Rehab mobile health app.

The study, published by the Journal of Neurological Sciences this month, was conducted at the end of last year comprised of 20 stroke patients approximately six months after the stroke.

The purpose of the study was to determine the efficacy and feasibility rehabilitation delivered through the 9zest Stroke Rehab app, delivered via mobile device.

9Zest lists a headquarters office in Dover and research facilities in India.

Researchers found: “In the present study, we noted significant amelioration of existing deficits among patients involved in this study particularly in motor impairments as well as cognition function. We have demonstrated feasibility and excellent user satisfaction involved with administering a mobile phone administered physical rehabilitation intervention for stroke survivors.”

The study was funded by the National Institute of Health, specifically the National Institute of Neurological Disorders & Stroke and the Fogarty International Center. It concludes, “overall, the intervention was associated with improvements in baseline motor deficits over the 12 weeks of follow-up.”

“This is a great validation of our belief that mobile health can transform how therapy is delivered,” stated Manoj Agarwala, 9zest co-founder and CEO. Manoj developed this concept based on his own personal experience. He was diagnosed with Parkinson’s in 2013 and his health and mobility declined dramatically over the first 2 years. Things turned around when he began daily tele-therapy after experiencing the frustration of a lack of progress from traditional therapies, a release stated.

9zest provides therapies through mobile apps that are multidisciplinary and holistic in nature. What ties these 3 conditions together is that there are no cures and no magic pills to manage symptoms.

Physical, speech, and occupational therapy have been shown to be effective treatments, but they are expensive and inaccessible for many.

In the US, there are 1 million people battling with Parkinson’s and 5.4 million stroke survivors.

The number of people suffering from chronic pain is significantly larger.
