The Junior Board of Christiana Care Inc.’s 2016 Medicine Ball led to   a gift of $75,228 to Christiana Care Health System for the new Acute Care for the Elderly (ACE) unit opening in 2017 at Wilmington Hospital.

The Medicine Ball, held at the Vicmead Hunt Club in May.

The Junior Board of Christiana Care, an independent nonprofit that provides financial and volunteer support to the health system, hosts the Medicine Ball, which has raised more than $1.5 million for a variety of services in its 18-year history. Those services include a cancer early detection program, medical simulation technology and nursing and allied health scholarships.

Proceeds from 2016 Medicine Ball support Christiana Care’s ACE Unit, designed for the unique health care needs of elderly patients. The new unit will have 30 private patient rooms large enough to accommodate specialized equipment. Common areas will be inviting for patients and their families to watch a movie or visit.
