The LYCRA Company, is launching a new type of fiber for stretch denim.

LYCRA FitSense denim technology is designed to provide a solution to consumers of all body types and shapes, a release stated. FitSense made its debut at an industry event in Amsterdam.

“Targeted support is engineered into stretch jeans using our technology, new fabric construction, and precision garment making,” said Ebru Ozaydin, The LYCRA Company’s global strategic marketing director for denim, wovens, and ready-to-wear. “Our innovative solution is discreet and invisible, and jeans retain the authentic denim look and feel consumers love.”

This innovation also offers the potential to increase consumer satisfaction and reduce y returns related to poor fit, a release noted.

For the third consecutive year, LYCRA has teamed up with the House of Denim Foundation and Jean School students for the exhibition “Stretch Yourself #3: Denim of the Future, Designed by Gen Z.” Once again, student designers created silhouettes that feature fabrics from mills using LYCRA Company’s technologies.

Also, LYCRA Company has teamed up with Qore in rolling out the world’s first large-scale commercial production of renewable elastane (Spandex). Available in early 2025, the product will use field corn to reduce the carbon footprint of LYCRA  fiber by up to 44 percent and is expected to offer equivalent performance.

LYCRA Company is based near Wilmington. Its namesake Spandex fiber was developed by DuPont as part of the spinoff of its nylon business to Koch Industries, as DuPont focused on fibers derived from plants. DuPont later sold that business in a wave of restructurings that left it as a much smaller materials company.

Koch later sold LYCRA to a Chinese textile company, which ran into financial problems. It is now owned by South Korean and Chinese financial firms.
