ChaseThe Food Bank of Delaware announced that registration for the fourth annual CANgineering competition (formerly DelawareCAN) is now open. Organizations have until March 4 to register for the food drive and structure-building contest.

CANgineering supports the year-round hunger relief efforts of the Food Bank of Delaware. With more than 17,000 Delawareans relying on the services of the Food Bank’s network of partners each week, community support is more important than ever.

The event comes during a period when donations are normally down after the holidays.  The competition is a way to collect food and create a spirited competition in Delaware’s business and education communities, a release stated.

“Bank of America is committed to alleviating hunger in the First State,” said Chip Rossi, Delaware Market President for Bank of America. “CANgineering allows us to do that while providing our employees with a fun team-building project. We look forward to seeing not only our team’s structure but the structures created by others in our community. ”

From Monday, March 21 until Friday, April 22, organizations will have the opportunity to hold food drives and compete to create structures out of the food items collected. Before collecting, teams should decide on their structure and coordinate the types of food items to be collected.

“Unfortunately, hunger never takes a break,” said Food Bank of Delaware  CEO Patricia Beebe. “CANgineering is an opportunity for us to help stock the shelves of our partner organizations and ensure that hungry Delawareans have access to healthy foods. Donations dip after the holiday season. In December 2015, we bank  collected 63,550 pounds of food through food drives, but in January 2016, we it  collected just 31,262 pounds. DelawareCAN is important to build momentum as we head into spring and summer.”

Judging will take place on Monday, April 25 and Tuesday, April 26 and winners will be announced on Friday, April 29. For complete competition guidelines or to register, visit www.fbd.org/cangineering.   Questions regarding the competition may be directed to Food Bank of Delaware Donor Outreach Coordinator Caitlin Custer at (302) 292-1305 ext 253 or ccuster@fbd.org.
