Building collapse at apartment project under construction injures 3

The Wilmington Fire Department reported a building collapse on Friday, resulting in injuries.

At 9:51 a.m., firefighters were dispatched to the 300 block of North Market Steet for the report of the collapse with an individual trapped in the collapse of part of a commercial structure under construction.

Firefighters went into the area and rescued one worker from wet concrete. In all, three workers received injuries and were transported to Christiana and Wilmington hospitals.

The collapse occurred in a six-story apartment building under construction. Workers at the site were in the process of finishing fresh concrete on the second floor when the floor under them collapsed. The Wilmington Department of Licenses and Inspections is evaluating the remaining structure with an engineer.

Approximately 40 fire and EMS personnel responded to the incident.
