Newark man charged with multiple business burglaries

A suspect in multiple business buglaries has been charged.

Delaware State Police have arrested 44-year-old Jimmy Kelly, 44,  of Newark on multiple criminal charges following burglary investigations in New Castle County during the past month.

Between Oct. 21 and Nov. 17, State Police investigated nine burglaries of businesses in the Newark, Wilmington, and Middletown areas. In each burglary, the suspect forced entry into the business by shattering the front glass door during the early morning hours. Upon entry, the suspect removed property before fleeing.

Troop 2 Property Crimes Detectives in collaboration with out-of-state law enforcement agencies identified Kelly as the suspect for the burglaries of Nails Haven, Jiffy Lube, and Dimples Nail Boutique, near Newark on October 21; Dogtopia in the Wilmington area on October 22; La Camarona Restaurant and Cunningham Irish Pub near Newark on October 28; and Amstel Barbershop, Go Green Cleaners, and Kingdom Spa in Middletown on November 17.

On November 21, 2023, Kelly was found by detectives at a Wawa in the Newark area and was taken into custody. He was taken to Troop 2 and charged with the following:

  • Burglary Third Degree (Felony) – eight counts
  • Wearing a Disguise During the Commission of a Felony (Felony) – two counts
  • Attempted to Commit Burglary (Felony)
  • Theft Under $1,500 – four counts
  • Criminal Mischief – nine counts

Kelly was arraigned by Justice of the Peace Court 2 and taken to Howard R. Young Correctional Institution on a $28,500 secured bond.
