SpringHill Suites Frederica, an all-suites 86-room hotel, opened its doors during a celebratory ribbon-cutting ceremony this week.

The hotel, which broke ground in January 2022, is part of Asbury Square, a project designed to attract Delaware residents as well as tourists and athletic teams.

The hotel is near the DE Turf sports complex, a site that attracts traveling tournament teams.

“As a signature project of the Kent Sussex Leadership Alliance (formerly the Greater Kent Committee), the opening of DE Turf in 2017 served as an economic engine for our community by bringing out-of-state teams and their supporters to Frederica to support the many existing businesses,” said Michael Meoli, president, Meoli Companies, and principal owner of Asbury Hospitality LLC. “Now with the Asbury Square project underway, we’ve opened new pathways for continued growth through the development of additional restaurants, retail stores, hospitality services and attractions that will further set Kent County apart and attract visitors beyond those connected with athletics. SpringHill Suites Frederica is excited to be a cornerstone of this economic growth, to support the integrity of the community through our service excellence and to invest our resources to contribute to a thriving community in and around Frederica.”

Meoli Companies, based in Rehoboth Beach, is the largest operator of McDonald’s restaurants on the Delmarva Peninsula.

SpringHill Suites also offers a meeting space, an indoor pool, a fitness center, a convenience store, and other services.

“The opening of SpringHill Suites Frederica continues the growth plan we envisioned when we opened DE Turf, looking to drive economic development in Kent County,” said Bill Strickland, board chairman, DE Turf. “SpringHill Suites’ accommodations offer the perfect blend of functionality and energy, and we’re excited to watch Asbury Square continue to develop.”

The hotel brings long-awaited development to the DETurf area that has been served by a Route 1 interchange built in anticipation of future growth.

Room rates run about $200 a night on weekends and $140 on weekdays. Weekend rates in Rehoboth Beach, 33 miles to the south, can run $300 a night or more at a comparable property.
