New Castle County Police address pop-up parties at parks

Following a shooting incident in Glasgow Park, New Castle County Police have issued a heads-up on pop-up parties.

According to a release, with warmer weather, police have seen an increase in pop-up parties advertised on social media.

Such events can get out of hand quickly and lack security measures. The events also disturb previously scheduled events that received permits from the County Parks Deprtment, police noted.

A pop-up party at the park in the early morning hours led to a 16-year-old being injured by a gunshot. County parks close at dusk unless special permission is granted.

Police passed along the following from the Parks Permits Office:

– All pavilion rentals and payments must be made online.

– Pavilions must be reserved a minimum of seven days in advance.

– The Parks Permits office requires 14 days to process all new requests for non-pavilion rentals.

– Amplified sound is not permitted in New Castle County Parks.

– Alcoholic beverages and/or illegal substances are prohibited in county parkland.

– Parking and/or driving on the grass or walking paths is prohibited.

– Admission fees or fees for rented games/booths may not be charged in county parks.

– Police coverage is now required for any event with a total attendance of more than 200 and are allowed at the discretion of the Parks Permits office. The permittee is responsible for paying all additional costs associated with additional services.
