The Delaware Department of Natural Resources and Environmental Control has issued a code orange air quality alert Thursday for Delaware.

Southern Delaware is seeing haze from a fire in a state forest near Egg Harbor Township northeast of Atlantic City, based on a sattelite map from the National Weather Service.

This follows a code orange issued in Pennsylvania from smoke coming out of a fire in Nova Scotia.

The region has experienced a dry May and is seeing warmer temperatures.

A code orange air quality alert means that air pollution concentrations within the region may become unhealthy for sensitive groups. Sensitive groups include children, people suffering from asthma, heart disease or other lung diseases and the elderly. The effects of air pollution can be minimized by avoiding strenuous activity or exercise outdoors.
