Highmark Blue Cross Blue Shield Delaware announced its first quarter BluePrints for the Community grant recipients. BluePrints for the Community is a donor-advised fund at the Delaware Community Foundation  that has invested more than $35 million to improve health outcomes in the state.

“By targeting specific aspects of health and well-being, we’re advancing real change for Delaware communities,” said Nick Moriello, president of Highmark Blue Cross Blue Shield of Delaware. “We’re proud to support the great organizations making a difference throughout our state.”

BluePrints aims to increase access to care and reduce health disparities throughout the state.

“Health is a multi-faceted component of living well, and BluePrints continues to make every effort to address the evolutions, changes, and emergences of the needs we see in our communities. Food Bank to hold mass drive-thru food distribution events later this month

In response to high food costs due to inflation and the end of pandemic-era emergency Covid-related SNAP benefits, the Food Bank of Delaware will hold three mass drive-thru food distributions in each county during the last week of March.

The Food Bank has received a state grant to help those in need of food following the end of the added SNAP assistance.

Employers can spread the word of distributions that can aid employees who may be struggling to feed their families in the current economy.

To help speed up the check-in process, pre-registration is requested. On-site registration will also be available. Service will be first-come, first-served. Assistance is limited to one per household. Attendees must be present to receive assistance. The Food Bank of Delaware is prepared to serve up to 1,000 households at each pantry. Recipients must bring proof that they live in Delaware (state-issued ID, utility bill, Delaware SNAP benefits card, etc. can all be used to show proof of residency).

GOLO makes donations to Habitat for Humanity and Minisstry of Caring

GOLO, a health and wellness solutions company based near Newark, recently announced donations to Habitat for Humanity of New Castle County ($10,000) and The Ministry of Caring ($5,000). The funds will support the nutritious meals program at The Ministry of Caring and affordable housing projects for Habitat for Humanity.

“We’re so excited to partner with these two amazing organizations,” says Jennifer Brooks, president of GOLO. “We’ve long admired their commitment and leadership on important issues in our community, like food insecurity and revitalizing neighborhoods through affordable housing.”

Since 1986, Habitat for Humanity of New Castle County has built more than 250 homes and ranks among the top three Habitat northeast affiliates of 210 affiliates (from Delaware to Maine) in terms of housing production. Throughout their 33-year history, they have served more than 350 New Castle County families.

The Ministry of Caring The Ministry of Caring serves those living in poverty. The organization feeds the hungry – with no questions asked – and provides emergency shelter and permanent and supportive housing, including the region’s only residence for homeless people living with HIV/AIDS.
