Delaware gas prices have risen during the past week but remain below the figures from a year ago, AAA reported.

As of Monday, the price at the pump for regular was $3.20 a gallon, about a dime from a week ago but about 15 cents lower tha a month ago.

A year ago, gas prices began moving to the $ 4-a-gallon mark following Russia’s invasion of Ukraine. Delaware came near an average price of $5 a gallon.

Andrew Gross, AAA spokesperson, said one reason for the increase comes with refineries moving toward summer blend gasoline. “This blend is designed to lower emissions during the summer and is more expensive to refine. Switching to summer blend usually adds about five to ten cents to the price of gasoline.”

According to new data from the Energy Information Administration, gas demand jumped from 8.91 million to 9.11 million barrels a day a week earlier. Meanwhile, total domestic gasoline stocks decreased by nearly 1 million barrels. The increase in gas demand, amid tighter supplies, has contributed to rising pump prices. If demand continues to grow, drivers will likely continue to see pump prices increase.
