Greene Turtle Newark restaurant reopens a short distance away from old location

 The Greene Turtle sports bar-restaurant reopens on Friday at a new location in Newark near the University of Delaware.

Located at 211 S. Main St. in the Park and Shop mixed-use center, the restaurant is short distance from the original location, The new location provides a modern design and enhanced audio and visual technology, a release stated.

“We’re excited to reopen our doors to the Newark community and welcome everyone in to see the new and improved location,” said District Manager Scott Barno for the TIG Corp. “With the NFL championship games coming up and college basketball conference games underway, there’s no better neighborhood sports bar to catch all the action than at The Greene Turtle. We can’t wait to see everyone again on Jan. 27.”

The day begins at 10:30 a.m. with a ribbon-cutting ceremony featuring New Castle County officials and members of The Greene Turtle and TIG executive team. Raffles and prizes will be offered.

Greene Turtle got its start in Ocean City, Maryland and opened restaurants around the region. Greene Turtle has about three dozen spots mainly in Maryland but also with a strong presence in northern Delaware with other locations in north Wilmington, Middletown, and Christiana. Two coastal Sussex locations have closed, including a prime spot overlooking the ocean and boardwalk at Rehoboth Beach. The owner of the Rehoboth location reopened the restaurant site under the Above the Dunes name and now have a focus on seafood.
